What is a gas flare fitting?
My old connector tube between my gas dryer and a pipe valve was leaking, so I bought a new one. This connector consists of three parts: (1) brass fitting with male threaded end which is screwed into one end of the tube,(2) tube, (3) stainless steel fitting ending in nut with female threads inside.
QUESTION: Is the brass fitting what is called a gas flare fitting? If not, is it another fitting that I have to buy?
The three pieces that you have should be enough to do the whole thing.
The new pipe that is either brass or SS. Is the new style of safety devices that are now on the Furnace market. They are not interchangeable with the old style. You will have to get a replacement. Depending on how big your furnace is in BTU. Generally the size is 5/8. The place you brought the tubing from should give you the correct fitting. Some times a Flare connection that is 3/4 mpt (Male Pipe Thread) on the outside may have a 1/2 fmp (Female Pipe Thread) on the inside. Hope this helps
