In Pennsylvania, there are exceptions to the law that all employers must buy workers comp insurance?
Could there be a except for fewer than three employees? Also, is there a way to get a break on the premium? We have a roofing business and workers comp premiums are extremely high. Any ideas on how to lower them a little? I understand that if we were somehow able to avoid purchasing assurance that we let our employees know, and perhaps willing to offer them health insurance. I'm just curious to know if this is still possible.
In PA, this is not the number of employees who account - this type of work they do. Example: If you have an employee coming home (aka, maid), you do NOT have to provide coverage. Also exempt are the KEY ARTISTS that work on stage, as When Pavarotti came to a show. Pa is not an NCCI state is therefore one of the arcane States. Seeing as how you have three employees which roof, I am assuming that your premium is well over $ 5,000. There is such thing as a credit PA Safety Committee - which saves you 5%. Your agent should have told you about this, and they can also help you configure it. It is only good for three years, though, so if you've already used, well, sorry! Another option is a franchise, but I never ever recommend it - losses resulting from the deductible, you pay, but they have always against you for the experience rating. Finally, for Medicare - in PA, most health insurance policies do not cover a wound which is "workers compensation" - meaning, if it can be covered by workers' model, they will not pay, even if no mock-up workers. But you'll have a darned hard time finding someone to give you a group policy, no toilet in place - Many companies have tried, and insurance companies are "on" that little trick.
