How do I remove the original dwelling to a fan exhaust pipes?
I removed the fan and found that the old housing is made of plastic. The new fan comes complete with metal case I suppose it is coded, but I doubt the plastic is. My problem is that the old housing is nailed to the stud around the ceiling using a metal in the opening, and I can not get behind her to leave. Will it hurt anything to just literally rip it out?
Other the ceiling, no it will not hurt anything. I will assume you removed the power cord first. You can try simply cut the nail off with a saw saw or even a hand held hack saw blade. The other thing that can be done is to pierce the head of the nail off, or to grind down. You may discover that you damage the stone wall or plaster ceiling a little if you just pull it out
